Monitoring and Oxygen

During any anaesthetic (even local anaesthetics), Dr Lim will use a range of equipment to monitor your vital systems.  The minimum will be a blood pressure machine and an oxygen saturation machine.  Additional monitoring may be used as required.  The anaesthetic technician will apply these devices as part of your anaesthetic.

Oxygen is very important.  Even if you are awake for the surgery, oxygen will still be provided with a soft plastic mask. At times, you will be asked to breathe oxygen from a plastic mask at the beginning of a general anaesthetic.  It is vital that you try and tolerate the mask for a few minutes as having the added oxygen increases the level of safety to you.

Oxygen will also be given to you in the recovery and post-operative period.  Again this is for your safety.
