Day Surgery

Day surgery means that you have your procedure and you are able to go home on the same day.  The trend is for more and more operations to be performed as day procedures.  Procedures which do not result in severe pain are suitable for day surgery.

You will still need to observe all the fasting requirements.  The anaesthetic process is the same except that it is tailored for you will be able to go home after the surgery.

The nurses will allow you to go home when you are able to eat, drink, go to the toilet and walk adequately.  You may be supplied with some pain medication to manage any post surgical pain.

It is advisable to have a responsible adult to keep an eye on you and also to help you overnight.  Although you may feel well, please remember that the anaesthetic medications can be still in your system.  Please avoid drinking alcohol or other sedatives.  Please avoid driving or operating any dangerous machinery as you may not be covered by your insurance.

Please contact the hospital or the surgeon if you experience any problems after going home.
