Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment

On the day of your surgery, Dr Lim will visit you prior to your surgery and conduct a pre-anaesthetic assessment.  He will ask you questions about the proposed surgery, your medical history, previous anaesthetic history, current medications and allergies.  If required, he may also need to perform a medical examination.  Relevant blood tests and other tests such as ECGs will be reviewed.  Occasionally, further tests may be required.

With all the relevant information, Dr Lim will then be able to plan the best and most appropriate anaesthetic for you and your surgery.  He will explain the process to you.  Please feel free to ask him any questions or voice any concerns.

The pre-anaesthetic assessment may be brief but will be as comprehensive as necessary.  If you are having major surgery or have complex medical problems, you may need to be seen in our pre-anaesthetic clinics.

You should accompany your child because children are often unable to answer questions fully.  Your calm presence will help your child cope with this stressful situation.  In addition, we need you to authorize any treatment for your child as children are legally unable to give consent to treatments.
